General Job Summary

The Chamber President will work closely with local business owners to encourage their economic prosperity.  The Chamber President leads the efforts to assure that the Chamber’s priorities are responsive to member needs and serve to advance the community’s economic welfare.  The Chamber President maintains positive and productive relationships with all the constituents involved in these efforts and directs all staff and volunteers of the organization.  The Chamber President manages and coordinates the organizational activities under the direction of the Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  The Chamber President will be open to some flexibility in the work schedule which will be based on a 40 hour per week minimum expectation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for membership engagement: visits, outreach, ribbon cuttings, acquiring new members and retention of existing members.
  • Oversees marketing and tourism efforts of the Chamber and Trolley including managing websites, email marketing and advertising campaigns.
  • Manages financial duties of the Chamber: payables, receivables, deposits, budgeting, and all financial management.
  • Plans and coordinates existing Trolley tours, private Trolley rentals and develops new avenues to maximize Trolley revenues.
  • Oversees all Chamber events (i.e., Waterfest & Annual Dinner)
  • Supervise all Chamber committee activity and facilitate summaries/minutes of committee activity to the Board monthly.
  • Responsible for the recording and distribution of Board Meeting minutes.
  • Manages employee(s) and perform annual evaluations.
  • An authentic commitment to moral and ethical behavior and the ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Promote personal and professional development utilizing educational workshops, professional societies, personal networks etc.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Skills, Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must have excellent leadership capabilities, written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and follow up.
  • Possess the ability to foster teamwork and collaboration.  Can motivate others both internal and external to perform enthusiastically.
  • Refined interpersonal skills to engage with others, solid negotiating, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent PC skills along with proficiency in social media applications.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks
  • Previous experience in Chamber leadership preferred but not required.
  • BA/BS preferred but not required.
  • Standing, walking, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds)
