LUNCHEON SPONSOR
Excelsior Springs: State of the City
The City of Excelsior Springs hosted the November Chamber luncheon.
Mayor Mark Spohn narrated a slide show presentation of the State of the City 2024. He began by quoting Strong Towns, “Building a strong town is not an easy process. And it’s impossible to do it alone. But when individuals become communities, and communities learn from one another, they generate a powerful bottom-up force that can transform [an entire region].
Mark pointed to the partnerships that have been made in Excelsior Springs. “Together we are building a stronger, more vibrant community,” said Mark.
He talked about Thrive Excelsior. Excelsior Springs is the first community in the nation to receive silver recognition through the Communities of Excellence Assessment and Recognition Program. This is the highest level of recognition currently awarded through the program. The effort to receive this recognition was led by Thrive Excelsior, a community coalition seeking to increase the quality of life and life span of residents in Excelsior Springs.
Thrive Excelsior focuses on housing health and economic vitality. Partners include the Excelsior Springs Hospital, Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Neighborhood Specialist, manufacturing stakeholders, Downtown Excelsior Partnership, the Elms Hotel and Spa, the Chamber Trolley, DNR investment in the Dryfork Greenway Project, Excelsior Springs School District, and Parks & Recreation Department.
