CHAMBER NEWS
CHANGE IS COMING, FROM ALL SIDES
March came in as a lion — and ended the same! It was a wild month of activity for the Chamber and there its lots of positive change coming to every corner of Excelsior Springs.
We successfully pulled off our first “remote luncheon” at Pisgah Baptist Church last month. We couldn’t have done this without the hospitality of Mark Spohn and the many volunteers who helped set up the space and serve refreshments during the event. It was an exciting exercise. The Chamber might choose to move our luncheon locations around on occasion.
I’d call our general election a huge success with the passing of Prop Lewis and the city’s Marijuana sales tax. Both questions passed by a large margin, proving that our community sticks together and supports positive change for Excelsior Springs. Look for work on the new Lewis school to begin this summer. Thank you to everyone who voted.
This week, Westside property owners are participating in a mail-in election for a one-cent sales tax. This sales tax will fund our Community Improvement District that will begin major infrastructure changes on the Westside. Partnered with the city and their Raise Grant of $21.5 million, the Chamber and the new Westside CID will use these funds to not only improve streets, sidewalks and landscaping, we will create a whole new environment on the Westside with united promotion, marketing and activities.
During this mail-in election, owners will need to vote and have their ballots notarized before mailing them back to the Clay County Election Commission. Tallying of the votes will take place May 2. Please help by encouraging a yes vote to any Westside property owners you know.
Waterfest planning continues for June 23 and 24. Our entertainment is booked for the ESH Main Stage and Crescent Lake Christian Center’s Good News Stage. Count on lots of exciting (and FREE) live entertainment courtesy of our Waterfest sponsors.
Chamber businesses get discounted rates on vendor booths at Waterfest. We are also looking for volunteers to help during the festival. Registration forms and volunteer sign-ups are a the Chamber or online at ESWaterfest.com.
We are excited to have Tammy Murphy join us as our Farmer’s Market Coordinator this year. Tammy is working hard to gather vendors for our downtown market, which begins Wednesday, June 7. We’re planning lots of big things for our opening night, so make an effort to stop by. We’ll be in the parking lot across from the GSC on Broadway again this year.
The Westside Excelsior Carnival is set and will be open to the public May 4, & 6. Jones & Company will be here for the first time. They will have $25 armbands for unlimited rides. Look for details on our social sites.
We’ve had several businesses renew their memberships this month. We welcome Hales Heating and Cooling, One Step at a Time Ballroom Dance, Total Insurance – Jim Rice, KH Consulting – Kim Halfhill, and Boopy Locks Hair Salon. We’re so happy you rejoined.
I continue to network with local businesses every opportunity I get. If I haven’t seen you yet, give me a call to set up an appointment. I’m looking forward to meeting all our great Chamber businsses and help us all move forward!
