Frank Lenk, Ph.D, Director of Research Services
KC Community for All Ages

The Chamber Luncheon Sponsor for September was Meet the Need, Inc. Kris Peoples spoke about services that the Meet the Need Thrift Store helps to provide working area families to help with crisis situations. A new endeavor that Meet the Need will be taking on is a Meet the Need Opportunity Cafe & Coffee. The program is in its formation stage and when completed will offer a job training program, free conference and meeting space for businesses, civic organizations and church groups, a mentoring program, and off night gathering opportunities. A complimentary family meal is also planned for those in need so a family can eat out together once a month and be exposed to a better life. Skilled workers are needed to help make this program possible such as electricians, plumbers, heating and cooling, dry wall, carpenters and food service management volunteers. If you would like to get involved in this mission, contact Kris at 816-630-5221 and leave a message.
Kara Harrington, Catering Sales Manager of the Elms Hotel & Spa, spoke as the featured Chamber Business of the Month. She led a fun and informative true or false question game with volunteers from the audience. The catering team at the Elms is available to help with event planning, large or small. Check out the Business of the Month link to learn about their Early Bird Special for Holiday Party planning!
Dr. Frank Lenk, Director of Research Services, Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), was a guest speaker for the luncheon. He introduced the Communities for All Ages program through a slide presentation. The presentation focused on the economic impact of an aging population. Excelsior Springs is participating in the program that will help identify and meet the needs of its residents in all stages of their lives. Residents are encouraged to get involved and take a short, online questionnaire on the livability of our city, and your perspective on elements that make a city "age-friendly."
The Monthly Luncheons are sponsored by various chamber member businesses. If you would like more information about sponsoring the luncheon contact the Chamber Office at 816-630-6161 or e-mail info@exspgschamber.com. Each month a business card is drawn for the opportunity to be a featured Chamber business of the Month, so members are encouraged to bring their business cards and participate. The business selected will be featured on the Chamber website for a month and will receive an ad in the Excelsior Springs Standard and the Town and Country Leader for one issue. In addition, at the next meeting, they will have a display table and the chance to talk briefly about their business.
Please come join us for a free lunch!
